Cooking Course

Skills for the Kitchen, Strength for Life

What you will learn:

Kitchen Basics

and Safety

Learners will explore how to use appliances and utensils effectively, manage heat and sharp objects with care, and maintain a clean, food-safe environment.

Special attention is given to accessible navigation for individuals with mobility or sensory needs, ensuring every learner feels secure and supported in their cooking space.

Meal Planning and Nutrition

Participants will learn how to build meals with proteins, carbohydrates, and vegetables, plan weekly menus that fit personal preferences and budgets, and prepare snacks and meals suited to different times of day.

The module also covers how to recognize and accommodate allergies and special diets, supporting health, independence, and dignity at every meal.

Cooking

Techniques

Learners will build confidence using timers, visual cues, and safe tools to prepare everyday meals.

With a focus on low-risk recipes like one-pot and no-flame options, the module also teaches how to recognize and fix common cooking issues such as undercooking or burning.

It’s all about making cooking approachable, adaptable, and enjoyable for every learner.

Cooking

with Others

Learners will practice collaborative cooking by understanding roles, communicating clearly, and working as a team.

They’ll gain confidence hosting simple meals or snack times, sharing recipes and personal food stories, and honoring dietary differences with empathy and respect.

It’s about building connection, inclusion, and joy through shared kitchen experiences.
